about

Alt-Folk group Prophecy Playground reimagines Beck's "Ramshackle".

Prophecy Playground is an alternative-folk group founded by guitarist singer-songwriter and composer Or Izekson. Combining gently written melancholic songs and instrumental themes with a carefully arranged string section deriving elements from classical European chamber music, Prophecy Playground’s music creates a semi-forgotten, semi-newly imagined sound - thus creating a unique take on a sometimes predictive genre.

Izekson says he has a tendency to produce cover versions for songs which made a big impact on his musical development. After covering Kevin Ayers' "Eleanor's Cake which ate her" which appeared on Prophecy Playground's debut album "Comfort Zone" (2020, Friendly Folk Records) the band releases a cover version to the somewhat sublime Beck song Ramshackle, which seals his remarkable album "Odeley" from 1996,

Prophecy Playground's take on the tune is typical to their style: fingerstyle acoustic guitar on alternated tuning, accompanied by a string trio consisted of violin, cello, and upright bass, with a touch of light drums and percussion. Izekson's vocal melody remains similar to that of the original song while the guitar and strings create slight modifications on the chorus' and instrumental C-part harmony. Ramshackle severs as the band's 2nd single from their upcoming album titled "Potency".

In 2021 Prophecy Playground have been invited to perform at the Japanese showcase event, Kansai Music Conference, and released "Tincture of Guilt", their 1st single from their upcoming 2nd album on OOB RECORDS, Rotterdam. The band tours their native Israel regularly in different venues and festivals. Recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic Prophecy Playground made their debut USA mini-tour last summer, and are expected to arrive in Europe for a scheduled tour in October 2022.

lyrics

You've been so long
Your blind eyes are gone
Your old bones are on their own
So take off your coat
Put a song in your throat
Let the dead-beats pound all around

We will go
Nowhere we know
We don't have to talk at all
Hand me downs
Flypaper towns
Stuck together
One and all

The bargains you drive
Buckets and bags
And all your belongings
Your train's in the sand
Ramshackle land
Let the rats watch the races

We will go
Nowhere we know
'Til we find our one and all
Hand me downs
Flypaper towns
Stuck together
One and all

Praises get spent
Your trick face is bent
Pigsties and prizes
Cause there's no kind of 'well'
You're suiting yourself
You leave yourself behind

We will go
Nowhere we know
'Til we find our one and all
Your hand me downs
Flypaper towns
Stuck together
One and all
